Edward #VanHalen plays a #Gibson #LesPaul at #Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in #Norman #Oklahoma (#OU) on 6 September 1980 in front of a sweltering crowd of 30,000 fans.
The “ROKlahoma show” began at noon with a set by Sammy Hagar, followed by Pat Benatar. Van Halen then took the stage, drawing “the most enthusiastic response of the day,” according to a local paper. The Doobie Bros. closed the show, but “some people had left and others were less than enthralled by … [their] relatively mild performance.”
Translation? Van Halen killed it and blew the headliner off the stage, as always.
Does anyone know why did eddie took the pickups out of that les paul?
A little #1980s history lesson: #VanHalen’s “Hot For Teacher” video from #1984 so deeply offended Tipper Gore that she formed the Parents’ Music Resource Center (PMRC) which attempted to censor “offensive” content in pop music.
